Being that baby boy is due any day now, I wanted to do a Guava Family Lotus Review for you!
When looking for a travel crib and bassinet, there are a LOT of options out there! What I was looking for was specifically ones that had the least amount of plastic and additionally, chemical free certifications. The Guava Family Lotus travel crib and bassinet fit those requirements perfectly! So let’s dive into our Guava Family Lotus Review!
What is the Guava Family Lotus Travel Crib and Bassinet?
- This is either just the travel crib, or both a travel crib and bassinet!
- We have the set so that the frame can be both the bassinet or the travel crib as your baby ages out of the bassinet.
How is the Guava Lotus different from other travel cribs?
- They are GreenGuard Gold certified, meaning they are free of many of the top toxins/chemicals that aren’t safe. Per their website they actually list a few of the top ones:
- No PVC
- No Lead
- No Phthalates
- No Formaldehyde
- No Arsenic
- No Mercury
- No Cadmium
- No Flame Retardants
- For more information on GreenGuard Gold certification you can also check out my Ultimate Non-Toxic Registry Guide!
- The travel crib and bassinet are very light weight. It comes with a convenient backpack travel bag and is airport friendly.
- Side note, we have not traveled on a plane yet with this. I’ve seen reviews where some say it doesn’t work well in overhead bins but to me it totally would fit, or would also travel well if checked. We will see when we travel next and I will have to update my Guava Family Lotus reviews for you if we do go to Florida later this year.
- The frame supports both the bassinet and crib set ups – so it’s really a win win! You get to have both a bassinet and travel crib in one convenient set.
- The mattress of the travel crib rests directly on the floor, and there is a zipper that opens so you can interact or snuggle your baby if needed. This is especially handy if you need to breastfeed or snuggle your baby to sleep and then safely zip them back up.
- The zipper on the side also has a little clip on the bottom that keeps the zipper closed which is another nice safety feature.
What is the weight limit for the Guava bassinet?
- Per the website: The Lotus Bassinet is approved for use for newborns to 18lbs

How long can baby sleep in Guava bassinet versus the travel crib?
- Our daughter slept in our Guava bassinet until she was about 5 months old or until she started rolling, and then we transitioned her to her to the travel crib for travel or her regular crib at home.
- Per the Guava Family website, the bassinet can be used until your baby maxes out the 18lb weight limit, or when your baby can push up on their hands/knees or sit unassisted.
- The Lotus Crib is approved for use from 0-3+ years old, and has no weight limit since it rests directly on the floor. We can still use this for our toddler but haven’t traveled a lot recently due to my pregnancy so we haven’t truly tested it at her current age of 2.5 years. She may be a little long now height wise I’m thinking.
- This time around we plan to hopefully travel much more with both kiddos and get even more use out of this. We might be going to Florida for a wedding in the winter… so I will plan to update my Guava Family Lotus Reviews for you at a later date!
Is the Guava Lotus sleep safe?
- Yes, they have the following safety certifications:
- US Federal Standard for Bassinets(ASTM F2194)
- Consumer Product Safety Information Act (CPSIA 2008)
- US Federal Standard for Play Yards (16 CFR 1221 / ASTM F406)
- Consumer Product Safety Info Act (H.R. 2020 / CPSIA 2008)
- What I also really loved about the Guava travel crib is that the mesh is ALL AROUND the whole crib – there are no solid materials anywhere to make you worried about breathing for your little one. Our daughter likes to smash her face up against the wall when sleeping and we never had to worry here as the mesh is super breathable.
- Same with the bassinet – the only exception is the small panels of reinforcing the mesh. I was never once worried about breathing with either the bassinet or the crib!
Is the Guava Lotus bigger than a Pack N Play?
- I would say it’s about the same, maybe a tiny bit smaller footprint than the Graco Pack n Play. As the mattress rest directly on the floor, the height is probably one of the most noticeable differences. It’s also much lighter to set up/carry/put away.
- We do have a Pack N Play at my parents house that they got later on, and we have used it, but honestly we’ve had to have multiple of us help set those up because we forget how to pop into place. It’s also clunkier, bulkier and heavier for sure!
- Here are the specific dimensions of the Guava Lotus bassinet and travel crib:
- Weight: 15 lbs/6.8 kg (including carry bag)
- Bassinet Mattress: 29″ L x 21″ W
- Setup Bassinet: 50″ L x 31″ W x 26″ H
- Crib Mattress: 41.5″ L x 23.5″ W x 1.4″ H
- Setup Crib: 45.5″ L x 31.5″ W x 25.5 H
- Backpack: 24″ L x 12″ W x 8″ H
- For a Graco basic Pack N Play I looked up, here are those dimensions. The Graco is definitely taller and a deeper depth, but similar in floor space they take up.
- Product Width: 28.25 in
- Product Height: 53 in
- Product Depth:3 9.5 in
- Product Weight: 18.7 lb

How long can kids sleep in Guava Lotus?
- The Guava Lotus Travel Crib is approved from ages 0-3+ years old, there is no weight limit – the limit is really on height and climbing out! Or if you have particularly strong toddlers who can tip it over, that would also be a dealbreaker for me.
- Our daughter has never been able to climb out of this so far! She barely can climb out of her regular crib now at 2.5 years old without help too. We don’t have a climber in the house right now but TBD if baby boy is a climber or not!
How do you clean the Guava Lotus?
- You can unzip the shell from the frame and machine wash super easily!
- The cotton sheets wash well too, so that’s also easy
- The mattresses are also waterproof so they are easy to quickly wipe down if needed
- The metal legs are also super easy to wipe down if needed

How much does the Guava Lotus bassinet and travel crib cost?
- At this time of this Guava Family Lotus Review, these are the prices on their website:
- Bassinet Kit + Crib Bundle: $349
- With 1 organic cotton bassinet sheet and 1 organic cotton crib sheet: $400.80
- Travel Crib alone: $229.95
- If you buy the crib, you can grab the bassinet conversion kit later on for $129.95
- Bassinet Kit + Crib Bundle: $349
Are there additional accessories for the Lotus bassinet and crib?
- Yes! There are the following available for purchase on their website!
- Organic cotton sheets for both bassinet and crib mattresses
- Sun shade for the crib
- We haven’t used this
- Mosquito net for the crib
- We haven’t used this either
- Replacement travel bag
What are the Guava Family Lotus Reviews saying?
- Based on over 3500 reviews they have a 4.8 rating
- Many agree it’s so easy to use, elegant, easy to travel with
- Being so lightweight makes it easy to move from room to room
- Those who bought the sunshade love it when traveling and the blinds aren’t ideal for darkening room
- People love being able to open the side zipper and snuggle their littles if they need help falling asleep when traveling
- The list really goes on!
What are the cons to the Guava Lotus?
- Sometimes reaching all the way to the floor to lay your baby down or pick them up could feel like a lot, but for shorties like me it was never hard to reach down to grab my daughter.
- The velcro in the bassinet that the mattress attaches to you have to get just right to make sure the mattress is flat. Sometimes I just readjust it once to make sure if I accidentally made it crooked.
- The sheets don’t come with the set unless you upgrade your bundle, so you have to either purchase those separately or add onto the more pricey bundles. It’s worthwhile to have the sheets on hand and I think I have 2 of each bassinet and crib sheets for washing purposes.
- This is definitely not one of those stations in your house with the changing table area on top etc like some other play yards etc – so if you’re looking for those types of travel cribs/changing station type set up, this wouldn’t be my top choice for that.
- We have had a second bassinet on a different level of our house for that last time. This time we have the stroller bassinet attachment with a stand set up in our downstairs as a changing/nap station during the day if needed as it’s sleep tested and safe. To be determined how we like this new one!
Final thoughts on the Guava Family Lotus Review!
I really can’t say enough good things about the Guava Family Lotus Bassinet and Travel crib. We are overall really happy we received this for our baby shower for our first baby. Thankful to have a super functional bassinet AND travel crib all in one set for baby number 2. Both have held up extremely well over the past couple years of use and I’m looking forward to a couple more!
We would definitely purchase this again.
I will be sharing more on my Guava Family Lotus Review in videos on my instagram stories of me setting up and breaking down both the bassinet and the travel crib if you’re looking for more video content – head on over there!
What was your favorite travel bassinet/crib? Have you tried the Guava Family Lotus? What did you think?
Until next time!

Would you be able to tell me what material the mattress is made out of? I can’t find that info on their website which is concerning, nor on Amazon. They won’t respond to my direct message either.
Sarah
This is a great question! I am going to reach out to the company to see if I can find this out – you’re right, they don’t seem to have this readily available on their site!
Sarah
I reached out to the company and here is their response: Our mattress is made from a high-grade, low-voc polyurethane foam, and is covered with polyurethane coated polyester fabric on the top and polyester fabric on the bottom. The integrated mattress base is made of rigid polyethylene plastic. We do not add chemical flame retardants.
The crib fabric assembly is made from polyester fabric and polyester mesh.
The frame is aluminum with nylon plastic parts.
All materials are 3rd party tested to ensure they are completely free of Lead, PVC, phthalates, flame retardants, formaldehyde, heavy metals (cadmium, arsenic, etc.), PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) that are commonly known as semi-volatile organic compounds (this includes Flourene, Pyrene, Napthalene and many more).
The Lotus Crib and Bassinet have also undergone 3rd party testing for stringent chemical emissions standards and have the GREENGUARD GOLD Certification.
So yes it definitely contains polyester/polyurethane parts, they are one of the few who go through the certification process for GREENGUARD GOLD and are flame retardant free and low VOC. Many still use polypropylene and polyester, but the Nuna doesn’t use polyurethane foam. Both companies have the GREENGUARD GOLD cert so I would be confident with both, but if you are worried about the foam, I would go Nuna! Theirs is a polyester fill/cover with a polypropylene removable plastic looking inside so you can remove and wash the outside.

I have the Guava Lotus (2020), used it for 2 kids. The mattress is wrapped in a waterproof, removable mattress cover that looks and feels like vinyl. The inside is a thin layer of foam bag of unknown material, but it feels like nylon. There is also an additional plastic hardboard on the bottom that’s essentially a plastic craft board used in science projects. Still looks like new after so many years.
tl;dr Pretty sure the whole thing is plastic.
Sarah
Yes there are definitely plastic/polyester parts and it’s a polyurethane fill in the mattress when I emailed them. Mine also looks brand new after using for both babies too! I would still recommend it and feel confident with the GREENGUARD GOLD certification! thanks for your comment!

I took off the mattress cover to wash and now wondering which side goes up when putting back on the mattress. Nylon fabric side ior rubber vinyl side? Just want to make sure and reassemble correctly 😉. Thanks!
Elizabeth
A little late to comment, but was curious if you used it when your daughter was 2-3? Our LO will turn 2 in August but I’m hoping we could still get some use out of it (plus we hope to have another).
Sarah
Hi! No worries! I think we used it just up until she was sleeping in her own bed around 2 years 8 months or so – she was nearly filling up the whole thing! But we stopped using it around that time since she has been potty trained too and it then went to my son! I loved the bassinet truly and the easy of travel and using the playpen after the bassinet – we used it all the time for both kids! Definitely got our money’s worth!
