Does winter weather, or postpartum hormones have your scalp dry, itchy and flakey? Insert: your new best friend: shampoo scalp scrub. I have been testing out a few different scalp scrubs and keep coming back to this. So I wanted to do a Goop Scalp Scrub review – also known as the G.Tox Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub Shampoo. It’s a mouthful though, so I’m going to refer to it as the Goop Scalp Scrub for this post!

What is the Goop Scalp Scrub?
The G. Tox Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub Shampoo is a salt scrub and shampoo combined – so you have a one step scrub and shampoo. You can immediately follow this with conditioner, rather than some other brands I’ve tried where you have to follow with shampoo still and then conditioner.
It is intended to be used as a “purifying shampoo and salt scrub that exfoliates and nourishes the scalp, leaving it clean, refreshed and free of buildup.”
Benefits of salt scrubs for your scalp:
- Exfoliation, which helps with the dry and flakey skin
- Removing build up of products and such on the hair
- Helps sooth your dry and itchy winter scalp!
- Or in my case, my winter AND postpartum hormonal changes desperately dry itchy scalp!

What are the ingredients in the Goop Scalp Scrub?
sodium chloride, water (aqua), sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, coconut acid, moringa oleifera seed oil, rosa canina fruit oil, moringa oleifera seed extract, canarium luzonicum gum nonvolatiles, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, eucalyptus globulus leaf oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, mentha viridis (spearmint) leaf oil, pelargonium graveolens flower oil, rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaf oil, schinus terebinthifolius fruit extract, tocopherol, glyceryl caprylate, sodium isostearate, glycerin, caprylhydroxamic acid, maltodextrin, triethyl citrate, dimethyl heptenal, linalool, geraniol, citronellol, limonene
How do you use the Goop Scalp Scrub shampoo?
- Make sure hair is thoroughly wet, and apply directly onto scalp. Gently massage into a lather, then rinse thoroughly as the salts dissolve. Use 1x a week or as needed. Follow with your favorite conditioner.
- And on the lather, this product actually truly lathers unlike a lot of clean and natural shampoos. It’s truly delightful to use. The salt pieces look on the larger side but they don’t feel harsh at all. Sometimes I wish there was even more texture for more of an intense scrub feeling, but my scalp feels great after using this!
- Just be careful not to get near/in your eyes, it can burn from all the peppermint and spearmint!
- There’s also not too much tingle. If you’re looking for tingle, the Innersense Organics salt scrub is super pepperminty and provides that mintier sensation. This is a nice and gentle exfoliation and subtle minty feel which is easier on the eyes and nose as well!

How often should you use the Goop Scalp Scrub Shampoo?
According to the jar, once a week or as needed. I only wash my hair a few times a week, sometimes I use this up to twice a week depending on how my scalp feels. I’m 8 months postpartum and it’s the dead of winter in New York, so my scalp has felt in need of more scrub!
What is the cost of the Goop Scalp Scrub at the time of this review?
$55 for a 6.7 oz jar
it’s a little pricey, but after trying out 4 different scrubs ranging from $10 at Whole Foods to the max price which is this one, I came back to this one ultimately.
How long does the jar last?
I don’t remember exactly how long my last jar lasted. I bought this jar so that I could do a proper Goop Himalayan salt scrub shampoo review for you and compare to some others I’ve been trying. I’ve only had this jar since December. It should last a solid few months depending how much you use based on the length of your hair, and how often you use. I’ll keep track and update this once my jar is finished! I have pretty long hair so I use a good dollop of product each time. It’s been probably about 2 months of use and I still have half the jar or a little more left! I’d say it’s going to last me about 4 months.

Where to purchase the G.Tox Goop Scalp Scrub Shampoo?
I typically purchase through Credo Beauty here. Sometimes you can snag a good sale when Credo has one – definitely sign up for their mailing list or follow them on IG!
Is the Goop Scalp Scrub right for you?
If you are looking for a clean scrub that doubles as a clarifying shampoo, eliminating an extra shampoo step in the shower, then absolutely this is for you!
If you have a dry, itchy scalp, this definitely can help as well!
Lastly, If you find your hair has some product buildup, this will also help here!
Other types of scalp scrubs
I’ve also used some mintier scrubs, saltier scrubs and some with sugar. This one is the one I keep coming back to, and I’d say it’s on par with Innersense Organics salt scrub although not as minty, and easier on the eyes.
Final thoughts
I truly love having the G.tox Goop Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub Shampoo to review for you and I plan to have on hand year round. I think it makes my hair clean without stripping. It gently exfoliates my scalp and leaves me less flakey in the winter months. It is easy on the eyes and not overly minty like some others I’ve tried. It is a little expensive but you are getting a decent amount of product and a little goes a long way.
What scalp scrubs have you tried? Have you tried this? Let me know your thoughts!
