With baby boy arriving any day now I am putting together our diaper caddies! I wanted to share one of my favorite things to have in your diaper changing arsenal. So here is my La Petite Creme Review!
When I had my daughter a couple years ago I was really interested in cloth diapering or minimizing my waste with diapers and wipes. I ultimately decided to go the disposable diaper route – you can see my review of all the eco-friendly diapers I tried here. While I did use conventional baby wipes to an extent, I found I was able to cut down on them significantly by using something called French Diapering Lotion, by a brand called La Petite Creme. So let’s dive into the La Petite Creme review!

What is diapering lotion or French diapering cream?
It is an organic all-in-one lotion that acts as a cleanser, and barrier, and healing lotion for your little one during diaper changes to keep them clean and protected in their diapers!
What are the ingredients in La Petite Creme?
Their Diapering Lotion ingredients are:
- Organic extra virgin olive oil – locks in moisture, rich in antioxidants and vitamins, leaves protective layer on skin
- Organic beeswax – antibacterial, helps soothe irritation/diaper rash and lock in moisture
- Organic vegetable glycerin – hydrating/moisturizer
- Water – to help make the lotion creamy
- Limestone – contains calcium hydroxide, natural disinfectant and pH balancer to help cleanse and counteract the acidity in pee and poo.
- Vitamin E – anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, promotes healing
Their Diaper Balm ingredients are:
- Organic extra virgin olive oil
- Organic beeswax
- Water
- Limestone
- Vitamin E
They are a small business, they hand make their products here in the USA with USDA certified organic ingredients!
Do the French use baby wipes or diapering lotion?
This is where the idea came from! The founders are two French moms, Cecile and Fanny. They started La Petite Creme out of their kitchen in 2012 when founder Cecile couldn’t find the traditional French diapering lotion here in the US for her daughter’s sensitive skin. So they sought out to make their own in their kitchens!
Diapering lotion is apparently commonplace amongst French parents, resulting in fewer diaper rashes, from what I have learned through this company! This is why I wanted to do a La Petite Creme review for you all – it really is such a different way to change diapers!
How do you use La Petite Creme?
You use 1-2 pumps on a cotton disposable pad or washable cloth, and wipe your baby’s bum!
Yes it works AMAZING on poop! It’s better than a traditional baby wipe will ever be. The olive oil truly removes all the poop in a breeze and leaves baby hydrated and protected for the next diaper change. I feel like once you start using it each diaper change becomes easier and easier.
How long does the 8oz bottle last?
This is hard to say as every baby is a little different, and you can customize how many pumps you use for your wiping.
Per their website, they estimate:
- Newborn phase: about 2 weeks
- 6+ months: about 1 month
I usually only did one pump for a pee diaper and maybe 2 pumps for poops maybe more if it’s really messy! Again sometimes i use a traditional baby wipe to remove most of the residue and always finish up my cleansing with the La Petite Creme.
Is La Petite Creme cloth diaper safe?
Yes! The diapering lotion and balm are intended for both cloth and disposable diapers. If you do cloth diapers this should not affect your current wash routine!
Does La Petite Creme diapering lotion prevent diaper rash?
In my experience, I never ever had a legit crazy diaper rash ever with my daughter and we were in diapers for just over 2 years! Honestly, I didn’t use the diapering balm much, the lotion on it’s own is honestly amazing.
How do you travel with La Petite Creme?
I use this little carry pouch with their convenient little refillable bottle! I store some cotton rounds for pees and the larger pads for poops, and some hand sanitizer, and you’re good to go! Yes I also always carry traditional wet baby wipes too, sometimes to remove the larger poop and finish with the lotion, or for messy hands and faces!
How much does La Petite Creme cost?
At the time of this La Petite Creme Review the costs of the lotions and balm are as follows:
- Diapering Lotion 8oz Bottle: $16.99 for single bottle, with subscription $14.45

I recommend starting with a bundle! You get one of everything and you get to test it all out – and then you can buy the larger bottles to refill as you need!

- Cotton disposable Swisspers pads: $4.15 for 50 pads (I usually buy a bunch of these at a time and they last a while!)
- Washable cloths: $6.99 for 10 cloths
Does diapering lotion work better than baby wipes?
I would say hands down YES! My husband agrees – so easy to keep baby’s bum clean, seriously it works so much better than baby wipes and you will be so thankful for no diaper rashes ever!

Does the diapering lotion stain clothing?
I will say I do my best NOT to get this onto clothing – after all Olive Oil is the first ingredient and oil stains are notoriously more difficult to remove. I typically use dish soap first and then Branch Basics oxygen boost before washing. Can the diapering lotion be used for other things?
I haven’t tried these, but per their website they have gotten a ton of La Petite Creme reviews. If you no longer need to use with diaper changes, you can try out the following!
Here are some of the alternate uses reported by our community of parents:
- dry skin
- dry lips/nose during winter
- cradle cap
- makeup remover – particularly efficient on waterproof mascara
- chafing
- dry scabs
- leather nourishing
Final Thoughts:
I would highly recommend and continue to recommend La Petite Creme to all my mama and mama-to-be friends out there! It truly makes diaper changes so much different, and better honestly! Cleaning poops will never be the same, it’ll always be so much cleaner with a diapering lotion.
